New Mexico Tech Launches Raul Deju Institute for Artificial Intelligence

New Mexico Tech has launched the Raul Deju Institute for Artificial Intelligence, a new initiative that will serve as the university’s central hub for advancing AI education, research, and innovation. The Institute will integrate artificial intelligence across academic programs, faculty research, and campus operations, positioning the university at the forefront of emerging technologies. Led by a multidisciplinary team of faculty experts, the Institute aims to connect theoretical AI research with practical applications in areas such as cybersecurity, complex systems analysis, and national security.

The Institute will expand opportunities for students through new and enhanced degree programs, minors, and certificates in artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and related fields. Combined with New Mexico Tech’s high-performance computing infrastructure, students and researchers will gain hands-on experience using advanced AI tools to tackle real-world scientific and engineering challenges. University leaders emphasize that these efforts will help prepare graduates for the rapidly evolving technology workforce while supporting innovation and economic development across New Mexico.

The Raul Deju Institute for Artificial Intelligence was made possible through the support of distinguished alumnus Dr. Raul Deju, whose philanthropy provides a strong foundation for the Institute’s long-term success. The initiative also reflects a broader collaboration among university leadership, faculty, researchers, and industry experts who see AI as a transformative technology shaping the future of research, education, and global competitiveness. Through this new Institute, New Mexico Tech aims to become a leader in AI-driven discovery and workforce development for the state and beyond.
